FAQ’s

Q:  Why does a fire engine respond with the ambulance?

A:  The Town of Brookfield Fire Department utilizes a tiered response system.  This means that units are dispatched based on the severity of the call.  When the engine responds it is for a serious call.  This is done to insure sufficient manpower is available on scene.  Having sufficient manpower ensures a shorter “on scene” time for priority patients and a safer environment for our firefighters.

Q:  Why is a fire engine parked outside a restaurant?

A:  Town of Brookfield firefighters conduct company level inspections.  This means that they take the apparatus they are assigned to on inspections.  Another reason is sometimes the days are so busy, firefighters are unable to shop for their meals.  In this case firefighters are allowed to go out to restaurants in the town to eat.  In both cases, firefighters are in service and ready to respond to calls.

Q:  Is the Town of Brookfield a full-time fire department?

A:  The Town of Brookfield Fire Department is a part-time fire department.  However, the department is staffed 24 hours per day by a minimum of 5 personnel.
